Coaching Services

Abel Hastings has spend more than 20 years training, coaching, and analyzing athletes. His education began at Hampshire College where he studied elite-level paddlers, and how to improve their performance. His research includes investigations on the biomechanics of kayak paddle shafts, training periodization, and metabolic performance analysis. His studies at Hampshire culminated in a prestigious Lemelson Grant to design and build a computerized kayak paddle for stroke evaluation. Next, Abel moved on to MIT where he earned two Master's Degrees in engineering. While at MIT, Abel was a member of the Center for Sports Innovation and completed research on transmitted vibration in bicycle frames. Abel has spent 20 years building the necessary knowledge to help athletes perform at their best. Let his expertise work for you.


Ongoing Coaching Packages

Put your training on a fast track to success. A plan will be developed to hep you reach your perfomance goals. Training plans include day-to-day workouts, performance analysis, and one-on-one coaching. Pricing is dependent on performance level, depth of coaching, and coaching resources.

Basic Plan ($100/month or $1100/year):

Custom Sessions

Perfect for fine-tuning your skills. A one-on-one custom session focused on the subject of your choice can jump-start your training. Sessions can include stroke technique, boat set-up, fitness analysis, or training plan refinement. Strategies can include ergometer analysis, video analysis, and heart rate analysis. Pricing based on time and travel and start at $40/hr.

Training Camps

Designed to provide an intense training experience. These 3-day or week-long training camps will help optimize training. Training camps include twice daily workouts plus on-land instruction. Training camps can take place in Austin, TX, Melbourne, FL or Raleigh, NC and can accomodate up to 6 athletes per session. Resources include ergometer, video, and heart rate monitors.
